  1. hmmm... well i'm more of a solo lead rock guitarist, if u find ur self saying "ya me too!" or "man i wana be so bad!" then check out http://www.guitarwar.com a great site for 5$ a month, lots of friendly shredders on there, and it's a guitar oriented site, so no singing or any of that BS (no offence intended)
  2. yes, the carvin legacy amp looks pretty sweet, i wish that were on there, probably one of the most well rounded amps i know off... but i went with peavy, cause i love they're Transtube Supreme, the best solid state head out there right now IMHO, and it's pretty damn powerfull too!! I also like the peave 5150II cause that's what alot of metal guys use, really good thick metal sound from that amp. messa's are great for rythm, but good luck trying to play any kind of lead on them without 2 racks of effects to make it sound "good".... but again, just IMO
  3. dang it, woopsy i forgot this was the painting section my bad...
  4. how much u asking? and how much does the HOK paint run for, and where can i get it ?
  5. maple necks just need to be refinished afterwords on the fingerboard side... that's all that seems different to me
  6. i just used 2 or 3 rounded files, then spent 4 hours sanding... and my fingers were REALLY soar afterwards! but i like the job i did, the only problem with sanding by hand is u have to be carfull of the frets... i accidentally sanded the corners of the frets so they rounded off quite a bit... i eneded up having to level down the fret board so the high e string wouldn't slip off the side every time i tried to play a note
  7. doesn't say in the catalogue, so i'm assuming it's just a generic burr file with the concave slots on either side..
  8. rokstr, i like the guitars in urthgirl a bit better, nice and heavy, but the singer isn't as good as urthmen... rooted, propaganda does have some crazy effects and echo's going on, that's pretty cool
  9. this seems like a good idea, i'll add to the list first..... most liscenced floyds suck the big one, except for a couple of the higher end ones made by ibanez (don't see vai complaining), and propbably a couple others i haven't heard of or played yet.... when in doubt, spend the extra 20$ and get the real thing man..
  10. i can get u one for about 17$ not to sure about the quality though i'm getting 2, the medium and large fret files from a supplier in japan, but i haven't placed the order yet... LGM, i'll see if i can get my friend to come over with his Digcam next time i change strings and i'll show u the dents i'm talking about, they're quite visible if i don't change the strings for a month like right now.
  11. ya, iuma is a nice site, and unlike mp3.com u don't need to enable cookies or sign up with ur email everytime u want to DL someone's songs http://derekneil.iuma.com i'll check out ur guy's's music tomorow..
  12. i duno, i mean yes, he has opinions, some people may agree others may not, but it terms of guitars, alot of what i read seems to make sense, that said, there is also alot of BS on his site, but that also said, he can gives really good prices on alot of quality parts.... so i'd say the seesaw is balanced right in the middle...
  13. Ok well i was talking with my friend and sent him a couple of my recordings i did on my little studio, (zoom mrs 1044) and i use all the built in effects which are good but i wanted something more real but mic'ing my amp is just to darn time consumming and loud (i like to record at 11pm-4am). So he sujested this little direct box that plugs in between ur and head and cab. PDI 09 - Filtered Guitar DI Box pic 135.00$ I couldn't beleive it, cause i love my little roland amp but i can never seem to mic the sound that i hear when i play it!!!!! http://www.palmerdirect.com/pdi09.htm http://www.palmerdirect.com/products.html He said alot of poeple use them, and i mean it seems like a really good idea, just woundering if anyone has here has ever heard of them being used or tried one them selves?
  14. BC canada (eh!) has a really nice looking school http://www.luthiers-international.com/guitar.htm but as with most of these schools, the prices are rather high... i am also taking the "make my own and see what happens then complain on here till u guys help" road.... i mean... 7 grand is alot of money for a couple months of learning...
  15. actually now that i think about it.... hmm i duno, i got my head all in a knot.... sharp will make a quicker initial dent on the bottom of the string, but the flat frets will make a bigger dent sooner then the pointier ones.... hmm... i think that's right... anyone else familiar with this denting on the back of the strings from frets? or have i gone completely fretty? in any case, i try to buy the tallest and thinest frets i can find for the best price.. (similar to the dunlop 6105's)
  16. well i have really acidic sweat so i kill strings in about an hour, and if i'm playing on my old strat that had really really flat frets the strings are dead 2 days latter, cause what will actually happen with me is i press pretty hard (long live hard rock ) the frets will carve dents into the strings that will affect intonation and make bends unsmooth, this will happen faster the wider the surface area of the fret touching the string is.... so it's something to keep in mind.... i like dressing frets almost to a sharp edge, mmmm percision... but what ever works for u
  17. do those collars fit any hand help type routers? non came with my router! but they look at bit easier to use then template bits with bearings on them which i am currently using. But then would't i have to re do all the templates i've accumulated? and if so how?
  18. i did kind of the same thing, well actually, i setup my routing jig for a retagular pocket, cause it was one of the first things i did after glueing the boards together and planing.... i'll probably just measure the angle relative to the side of the pocket that the neck is at and make a shim of that angle and shove it in there with some glue on one side... then sand it down flush and laquer it...
  19. unless u want the old guitar for something to throw around the shop as a refenrence for when u make a set neck guitar then no, keep ur johnson
  20. u boys and ur jigs... the time it takes u to set it up, test it, and get it set up again for the actual neck u coulda just used a nice wide (and sharp) wood chisel?
  21. most places that sell L6, R6 and 3X3 sets will do any combinations and L7 R7 sets, even if they don't, doesn't hurt to email them and ask nicely.
  22. yet another reason i'm leaning towards tsl's roller method... sprays are to bitchy if you're just starting out IMO, i hope you get everything figured out.. but couldn't you just put on some more clear coats so you'll have lots there to sand with no worries? i mean.... if you put on like 20 more coats of clear then all you have to do is use one of those sanding blocks to get a flat top and bottom... like... bring the dips up with the coats and sand down to the lowest point..? ok i'm tired... sorry if that doesn't make sense...
  23. couldn't you buy 4 and MCGuiver some ?
  24. especially for cnc made guitar from japan.... oh dear.... *shakes head* like if it was hand made by a luthier i would understand cause of the inlay.... but again.... CNC
  25. i just use adsubtract, and i set "all sites" to block cookies, ads, and pop ups, then sites like hotmail and here, i allow cookies to be stored for them but adding them to the custom filter list. it used to be free.... i think.
