  1. just thought of a solution... you need a video camera and to pay someone for a single guitar lesson.
  2. I would be willing to loan you my vintage 1983 lotus in the meantime (hehe - I don't have a lotus). While I would def love to check out a build of yours, and would do anything for you... gosh that'd be an expensive way to get a recording of that guitar... If only 're-guitaring' was a thing!
  3. well, your in luck... if you want to simply mail it to arizona... I would be willing to take one for the team and do a demo for you (hehe - might take me the rest of my life to send it back tho). bet it's going to rip.
  4. -might be just the thing I need to take me to the next level. P90/single/p90... I do hope you'll do a vid or audio demo? Looks like you went with strat wireup?
  5. I dunno man.... If I was building it I would have gone WITH strings (is string-less catching on?). Other than that looks outstanding!
  6. few other options... use actual circuitboard (use an old pc motherboard) and remove any components (would be some work), or buy an unpopulated board... you could use clear waterslide and silver art deco film... or actually buy some copper clad board and etch something into it (not all that hard). If it were me... I'd probably make some artwork in photoshop and send that to a vinyl sticker mfg. just some thoughts.
  7. right on, have some macassar on a fav bass... has some blond streaks but not quite that 'over the top'. gonna look nice.
  8. "It's the little things" - looking good. I especially like the delicate little 'nipples' on the f holes. Tiny details like that are so easy to loose and really add a touch of class. nice work.
  9. looking good bruther. esp like whatever-the-hell is going on with that fretboard grain (the two blonde streaks on the bass fretboard). Good choice in wood that.
  10. was just listening to your gotm submission, just stopped in to say wow... that thing sounds like it looks: bigger than life.  Congrats.

Thanks, Mike. Very much appreciated :)

  11. I took a straight on photo of a setius 6, used fret-2-find to create a fretboard of sm scale... scaled up the image till it matched the fretboard. Not sure if setius is sm as regius but body is 12.657 at widest and 17.64 from bottom to tip of upper bout.
  12. I bet he did that because he could say "cut loose like a deuce" without giggling (I know I cant) ;). but that guitar... nothing to giggle at there... def an ace. (totally unrelated to the post below mine and not an edit... but officially would like to petition the courts to change your user name to "GreatScott")
  13. Judges? are we cutting deuces loose or wrapping them up? Note to self: if I ever meet Bruce: settle this deuce dispute. If that doesn't work I'll just ask 'the juice', but I bet he sides with cutting them. (hehehohohaha)
  14. blinded by the gloss... wrapped up in your build another user in the toss. makes my fingers and elbow sore just looking at it. nice work as always.
  15. robotic-fusion collages - "just might be crazy enough to work" I like the first one... the 'gass cap' thingy - I don't know why... but i like it.
  16. u coward. also, larry graham is perhaps the greatest bassist ever.
  17. wow, beauty build and that finish just really popped it. nice work.
  18. noa u gonna 'slappa da bass'? looking fwd to your demo video!
  19. wow, that rosette really pairs well against the top/sides. nice work!
  20. sm thing I love about building pedals/computers/software/anything-else: I can build something much more unique than I could ever afford to buy. I enjoy the dreaming it up just as much as realizing it... perhaps more (rosewood binding!). Also... I enjoy it when folks see something I built and think it's nice and respond as such. Perhaps it is me just feeding my ego but I genuinely enjoy that. good question.
  21. don't listen to him... he's a six stringer and they must not be trusted!!! jk. (hello Bizman) I would just add that... I've found cheapies that sounded decent and cheapies that didn't... I think it depends more on the build than anything else and for the bad ones the general issue is with loss of high freq content which isn't going to be much of an issue on bass. that said... given they are humbuckers... you can buy some nice alnico bar mags on evilbay for $3ish and that can make a surprising difference. it's sort of 'target practice while blind' but I've had decent luck doing that. A2 seems to sound good everywhere to me. Furthermore, with a hollow body and bass the more likely issue is going to be whether or not they are microphonic. bass guitars, even clean, can really howl if they are not potted and/or if you don't put some foam under them in the guitar. You may want to prepare for that. You may also consider that replacing pickups in a hollowbody is NOT fun... at least it hasn't been for me.
  22. I'll give you one piece of advice I wish I'd been given before I did a mapa burl top... If you are going with a dark (black) fill for voids... you should use it to spot fill the bigger voids and then use clear and go over the entire body. I used black epoxy and and went over the entire top and it doesn't look bad (it was a gotm winner in 2018)... just a lot of unfortunate smaller voids got filled with black and that kind of took away from clean look of the mapa.
