b5111987 Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 right here ar a list of woods i can get my hands on what is best and lightest ash - american white beech - steamed beech - white ceder - western red ceder of lebanon cherry american chestnut elm - american red elm - european idigbo iroko lime mahogany - african or brazillian oak - american red oak - american white oak - european obeche pine parana pine sothern yellow pine pitch sapele teak burmese tulipwood utile walnut american black wange zebrano Quote
Daniel Sorbera Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Expand that list to just about eveyr kind of wood. Because you could just order off the internet... Swamp ash is the way to go if you want light and good tone. Nothing on your list seemed like it would fit the bill better than swamp ash. Cedar is probably the lightest on that list but is not that great for a electric guitar body. Quote
Devon Headen Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Parana Pine might be a good option. I think MikeB used it on one of his creations awhile back with no problems. Pine is light, too. Quote

skibum5545 Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I was about to say, pitch pine is a lot like poplar tonally, and will weigh not too much. Also, you could get white ash and chamber it for a really nice tone; I'm pretty sure that's how they do tele thinlines. Quote
komodo Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Sapele and Mahogany (Honduras or African) are both decent and similar midweight options. Basswood, Poplar, and Swamp Ash are all good lightweight options. The trick is finding a nice clean and clear piece, and knowing what to do with it after that. KOMODO Quote
Hunter Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Use Swamp Ash - it's very light and sounds REALLY good, IMO. You can get a body blank from someone here, I'm sure. Quote
Mr Alex Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 It would appear you've now asked this question, FOUR TIMES! Quote

Demian Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Anyone could tell me if PINE PARANA is good for a body guitar?? I thought that It was just a rough and cheap wood. Here in Argentina I can get a lot of that wood. I´m shock! Demian Quote
