crafty
Oh lord, another ER thread... Honestly, that video had me on the floor. "If you wanna guitar made out of the skin of your mother-in-law, we can do that too! Kill it and grill it!"
Samba Pa Ti
lol yeah, that got me too i dont know much about ed romans, but the comments on youtube are a bit strong, personally i think this (projectguitar) is the best place for a "custom guitar" although you would have to make it yourself. ed roman is a complete ****ing douchebag, and a ****ing scam artist, 90% of his bodies and necks are imported, infact his so called us series mosrites are shipped from korea in parts where they are made, then assembled in his shop, he looks at his customers, and evaluates them financially, if he thinks you can afford $5,000 for a guitar he will certainly charge you for it. DON'T DEAL WITH ED DIRECTLY, his salesmen are hard working honest people, and will work with you, ed himself will scam you. crafty
There's been a lot said about him on this forum and others, no need to rehash, just use the search feature. Most of the stuff on his website and that video is just pure hubris marketing trying to sell as many of his own private label guitars as possible. Funny thing about that shop tour. They have a wall full of necks waiting to be installed on guitars. Did you see any machinery that could make all those necks in there? I get the feeling that along with all the other components, he merely outsources 99% of the process and the instruments are only "assembled" and not crafted at the shop. Something he seems to be very much against according to the rants on his website, but that "shop" didn't look anything like a wood shop to me, 'cept for the few billets drying up on the rack. BTW, Ed, it's 2007. I'm sure you can find a newer limo than that busty 15-year-old Lincoln.
CrazyManAndy
He has revamped his website recently and took off a lot of those "Tech Articles" he had on there. Either his conscience caught up to him or too many people were calling him out on that misinformation that he is selling. Magnus
I thought that Ed kept his guitar builidng shop in Connecticut when he moved to Las Vegas.
weaponepsilon
I emailed that f***ing douche bag because of his "just shoot me an email and we're willing to deal" policy that he had. (dont know if he still has it) He blantanly ignored me after several emails, I finally gave up. I tried his "specialist" whom he personally tended with and still nada. So I said screw it, and found PG!

Lotza_Noize
I just called Ed Roman's and the guy I talked to said that Ed's was relocating or something. It seems Ed lost his lease on the building or something and who knows where he will end up next. What I did hear is that he will continue to do guitars and stuff but from where God only knows. crafty
Doesn't surprise me. He's in kind of a seedy area (for Vegas) and the property values have literally doubled or tripled since he moved there. Probably can't afford the bribes to the local union or consigliere anymore, either. He'd be better off trying to put his store in a resort/casino and billing it as an exclusive, high-end shop. cherokee6
According to the shops in the area, he's been out of Ct. for quite awhile. He was not well regarded by these other shops. As many have astutely observed, his web site says it all. I've also had the pleasure of emailing to no avail and speaking with their tech people who seemed clueless. Lotza_Noize
Talked to Ed Roman just yesterday. I called to ask about a marble like paint job on my project JEM. Anyway what he said was that he has been booted out by his investors or something like that. He's been out of it since January. And the investors didn't want the business anymore. So they (not him) decided to sell the company and the building. Screwing him out of the game. And selling all there stuff. Which what I'm told is a **** load of guitars. Ed is not out of the game totally. He said he will end up owning (not renting) a building this time. And employing 10-15 people (not 70+). And doing what he does on his own terms. You may be asking yourself, "He's promoting Ed Roman guitars" or "He supports what is or what was going on". True answer to that is I don't know the man much at all, just talked to him for the quote on the paint job. He told me this info. I'm just passing what he said on to all of you. Just FYI. Prostheta
He'll probably be able to do you a good deal on a $200 paintjob if you have a couple of extra zeros to spare! Ring around some auto and bike custom shops and as long as your wood prep is good then you'll get a much better job done for a hell of a lot less. Prostheta
Oh, I forgot to add....car and bike custom painters would do the work with PRIDE too, instead of for the number of zeroes on the receipt.
crafty
Word is that he actually sold the controlling interest to some good fellas who own a few car lots nearby--and they want him gone. What do you want to bet they're putting in a gentleman's club called the "Bada Bing!"? "Don Corleone, I am honored to be invited to your home on the day of your daughter's wedding." crafty
I just think it's hilarious that they've taken EVERYTHING in the shop. It's like, Tony Pro came in one day, gave Ed a couple belts to the gut, and said "we own this place and everything in it according to the NEW lease that you'll sign today." Hopefully he had his horde of Steinberger stuff hidden away in Connecticut. They can keep all those fugly Quicksilvers and Black/Back pickups for all I care. They'll have to fire sale that crapage.
