Ripthorn
Very pretty guitar, I like how the wood tones swing from very light to very dark.
Prostheta
Wow. Very very very nice build. My wife says that if it were her build, she'd have cocobolo as the central body wood also (despite it hiding the majority of the flowing grain). Wow...there is some crazy-ass MC Escher thing going on with the bottom of the table and the top here :-\
toneseeker
INCREDIBLE!!! Hail to thee. Very nice wood choices and execution. A thing of real beauty.
Inisheer
Looks amazing! Very clean work so far and that cocobolo neck is gorgeous. I can't wait to see this one finished! Also...Prostheta is right....the maple is on top of the table, but is also part of the table....? lol
dej
Hi, just adding some more pics for Ralph (the original poster, i'm just going to be the guitar owner once finished ) At this stage, it's had one coat of stain applied. It's since been rubbed back and then stained again. I don't have any decent photo's of that though. The natural edge binding really looks good Will post some more pics when i can get round to ralph's place again
ae3
You're a lucky man dej! the top is just stunning. And with woods like that AND that huge set neck tenon it's going to soud awesome.
jer7440
The wood in that neck is fantastic! Just gorgeous.
dej
Yeah the cocobolo is pretty nice:) natural colour too, no tinting on the neck in person, it's got a lot of variation..brown, red, purple and black in places here's some more pics, taken after it's had about 5 coats of clear, needs to be rubbed back and then have more clear applied, then polished
Prostheta
Excellent work - what as the sets of two holes in the cavity cover supports?
Tim37
wow the back is as amazing as the front
rdiquattro
The round holes you see are magnets to hold in the back control cover that is also made of a matching peice of maple.
toddler68
That neck is so gorgeous I can't stand it! :D A triple drooler! Have you clearcoated it as well, or is it just polished?
rdiquattro
Hi the neck has Had about 8 coats of clear on it . The cocobolo is such a hard timber that it dosent soak that much laquer up at all .
IPA or death
Wow! What an excellent guitar. Nice work Ralph--and tell your kid the same for all the drawings . ihocky2
Really nice work there. I am not a fan of straight amber as a color, but that is just a personal thing. Otherwise, very nice work all around. I really like the cocobolo neck as well.
Blackdog
That is a beautiful guitar indeed !!! The cocobolo looks amazing under a finish. Did you have any problem with the lacquer sticking properly to cocobolo ?? I read here that the wood is so oily that sometimes it is a problem. Did you treat it with anything before lacquering ?? What kind of lacquer did you use ?? I have a Korina doublecut in the making and it will have cocobolo binding, that's why I'm asking. Great guitar, I'm sure it will sound amazing too. Looking forward to the updates.
rdiquattro
Thankyou for your kind comments the finish i am using is a nitro type laquer that dosent crack or craze after a few years. Its called excellac 100 made buy a company called sherwoods paints. All i did was wipe the neck down with prepsol which a grease and wax remover. Ps you allso have made some great looking guitars as well keep up the excellent work .
dej
here's some more pics after a few more clear coats (now showing the control cavity cover) still hasnt been polished, it probably has a few more sessions of clear to go, then time to cure etc
