WezV
the top came from a guy in the UK called andy fellows. he occasionally has stuff on ebay under the name prime timbers iirc it was about £100ish

WezV
yeah - i am very happy with the blueness of the blue. i did try and get maple as pale as possible to help- not sure if mike bleached it or not before staining

mlennon
Hi Wez, I did bleach the top first Pic before bleaching And after process pictures Activating solution applied (part a) makes the wood darker which is normal Bleach applied (part b ) pic taken after a couple of hours bleach washed off - taken in daylight
WezV
goog stuff mike - i wasnt sure if you bleached or not because the faux binding still looked the same colour as the maple did before, but i can see what you did there... good to see some in progress shots that after shot shows my scooped out bevel/carve really well

Mr_Buttman
I've never faced with bleaching before... mlennon, what do you use to bleach the wood, if it's not a secret?
WezV
he used rustins wood bleach on my LPJ to get the yellow nice and clear iirc gibson used a solid yellow over a tinted grainfiller which eventually bled through to show the wood grain mikes solutions to get the same look was to lighten the mahogany with wood bleach and spray a trans yellow. worked very well too

mlennon
I've never faced with bleaching before... mlennon, what do you use to bleach the wood, if it's not a secret? It can be quite difficult to dye maple blue as the natural tone of the wood can give it a greenish hue. I've used Rustins wood bleach on a couple of jobs now Wood Bleach

WezV
cheers guys here is a mockup with hardware, bridge plate still needs more work but it should give you an idea of the final look top is glossy, back and sides are satin finished - very happy with that too. Drak
What an incredibly handsome instrument. There's not too many guitars I see that I like more than my own (for obvious reasons) ...but if I saw that hanging in a store, I would want that to go home with me. Love the color Love the shape Love the bridge Love the headstock Love the way the bridge works with the design of the body Love the 'board Love the overall cleanliness of the job Very very nicely done, a Monster!
