hooglebug
this top has gorgeous 3d figuring. heres the hole. its on the bass side waist area and will be visible looking at it head on once its fully carved. but as the front is covered with inlay anyway it shouldnt be too hard to cover over
Prostheta
Looking good, Hoogle! What caused that hole? Worm, void, inclusion?
hooglebug
inclusion i think
hooglebug
not the best pic but you get the idea. the branches do stand out a little bit more but next time i think a lighter horn or a different material
hooglebug
first stage done
ScottR
I had to go back to your mock up to double check that the branches are going to be both inlay and F-hole. The carpet showing through threw me for a bit. This one's going to be niiiiice. SR
hooglebug
hehe yeah i meant to do it it wasnt some hideous mistake heres the headstock. only sanded to 80 hence all the scratches and rough look. horn makes really coarse dust - when i was sanding the fretboard down there were big grooves all along the length of it. thankfully it stopped doing it past
hooglebug
the neck and top are glued onto the body core. had to do this first before doing the body inlay because i cant carve the bass side to final shape till its glued on. tomorrow i shall be getting the inlay started
Anthony
Dude, that is wild. And its gonna be beautiful when its done. What color is the maple getting?

hooglebug
all done. the hole covering is gluing now. i think iv found a good solution to it. i might even keep it for future ones.
WezV
stunning. at first i was wondering if blue was a good idea for the finish - till i remembered this edit - i am sure i remember you mentioning it was going to be blue :?
hooglebug
yeah it will be blue. unless someone comes in to buy it before its done and wants it different. i only did a red and a blue mockup hmmm...i dont know now. i shall have to think long and hard
IPA or death
Awesome inlay work man. This guitar is going to be fantastic, and I hope the owner buys a good kimono to wear when playing it. It just cries out for a kimono-wearing owner. (man, my kimono is itching)
ScottR
hmmm...i dont know now. i shall have to think long and hard Yeah......having only seeing the blue mock-up I was sure that was the way to go. But this particular shade of red, man it looks nice. That is definitely black cherry. Looking forward to see what you choose. hooglebug
heres the hole cover up
ScottR
That is brilliant even if it wasn't covering up a hole. Next time you need to design one where the inlay carries off the edge of the top like this, on across the edge and continues on the back. HuntinDoug
That works well with the way the FB "breaks out". Very nice indeed. I also like the rose colored top. I cant wait to see this one completed.
The Fool Guy
Whichever colour you go for that is going to be one very sexy guitar
Prostheta
I agree with Doug on the rose colour. Too many purple, red and magenta guitars. Good call on using the word "rose" Doug. A classy colour, unlike "pink"!
hooglebug
sigh. i knew it was all going too well. drilling for the bridge posts today big chunks of the top ripped off. and of course they only did it on the side that WONT be underneath the bridge. damn it. they'll be sticking out about 3-4mm from the bridge so would be very visible. and i couldnt find the bits that came out either. i thought about cutting some scrap and trying to match it, but once its stained and everything im thinking it would be rather obvious. so i tried to come up with something to cover it. what do people think?
