I dont do laminations because I dont like the way they look, but also because I'm afraid this would happen. If it were me, I would do a burst on the back and heavily color the heel transition area for a few inches both ways to help hide the mismatched transition.

So,

Onward to more finishing problems...

Never had a a single problem with my usual open grained poly finishes. But of course... the one commission i take...

Apparently the rosewood veneer doenst like poly. It stayed gooey and soft for over a week, and pretty much just rolls off the wood. Yet another refinish needed.

I was going to ask if that bullseye stuff was dewaxed. How do you thin it?

I think i found a way round it.

I wet sanded the top part with mineral spirits, then worked in an oil finish with 2k grit sandpaper. It buffed it nicely and worked the oil in. It brough out the the color nicely and gave it a very nice satin sheen.
