  1. That's just because his avatar is on his fullserve account, which has been down for a little while now I believe.
  2. yeah..but the 5th/17th you mention originally is the one i play all the time...along with the 7th/19th off the song "the ballad" by testament ← this is the part i was trying to get: --5b7-[14]-[12]-[14]-5b6-[12]-[14]-5-[12]- In the performance notes: 1. Bend G string one full step at 5th fret and hold bend. 2. Tap harmonic at 14th fret with RH. 3. Tap harmonic at 12th fret with RH. 4. Tap harmonic at 14th fret with RH and release bend 1/2 step. 5. Tap harmonic at 12th fret with RH. 6. Tap harmonic at 14th fret and release bend fully. 7. Tap harmonic at 12th fret and vibrato with LH.
  3. yea i tap it right above the fret. I think i might touch it to long though, and I will try tapping it shorter. the thing that was making it hard, i think, was that I am tapping the equivalent to the 7th and 9th fret hamonics on an open string. I would here the '7th' one, but the 9th is harder to get out. But thanks for the help, Wes.
  4. the picture doesn't work, but if you copy and paste this address it does: http://blairconner.tripod.com/sitebuilderc...dited234978.jpg i think it looks cool!
  5. what I am having trouble with is tap harmonics. If I understand correctly, I would fret the 5th fret on the A string or whatever, then tap the string right above the 17th (an octave higher) fret with my right hand. I'm trying to get it for the part of EVH's solo in Dreams, where you fret and bend a string, then tap harmonics on it. I can't get them to come out at all, even with a bunch of gain, so I think I am doing something wrong.
  6. they don't sell the JEM single, you can only get it out of a JEM. I have also heard that the virtual vintage is close, and I think there are some people who also put a Blue Velvet in the middle. I don't really know what any of them sound like though, so I can't help you there.

    Boss Gt-8

You could always block one of the cheaper floyds to improve the tuning stability and make it more of a hardtail.
  8. There isn't a whole lot of info out there ragarding the Jem Jr. which is also called the Jem333. What I know (or at least what I remember, correct or not) is that it was only marketed to a few Asian countries and it was released there because there was a big problem with counterfeight JEMs which were utter junk and gave Ibanez a bad rep over there. I guess Ibanez wanted to maintain their reputation (and cash in on the market) so Steve and they designed the JEM333 for those countries. I don't know what the actual specs are besides it has just dot inlays rather than the half vine of a 555, and the bridge, pickups, and probably all the other materials like wood and tuners are of lesser quality than the 555. Basically, I would stay away from it and go for a Japanese made RG, but I don't know what the situation is like as far as guitar availability is where you live.
  9. you could try some type of inlay back there, like this guy did on the back of his. The thread about that guitar is here.
  10. Not a fan of the body shape, but I can definitely look past it and see how beautiful that guitar is! Love the carved top.
  11. You should be able to follow that tutorial and make a recess on the back of the neck joint if you want to, just do it across the whole thing instead of one side like on the RG body in the pictures. And, the All Access Neck Joint Jems (from the early nineties up to now) don't have that recess, and it would be much more difficult to make a square joint into an all access joint. The tutorial is for making it into the older style neck joints.
  12. I want that shirt! 5150 is actually in my CD player right now. What size is it? I will probably bid on it if I can remember to, and if it will fit alright.
  13. Cost is the biggest motive behind multiple peice bodies and thinner tops.
  14. I must say that you have quite the rack, Dave! How much do the Eclipses normally run?
  15. you can do a search on this forum too, there have been many threads about building amps (probably in the Electronics section). The only site I can remember of the top of my head is www.ax84.com
  16. check out http://www.blackmachine.co.uk they make 'em about 30mm wide, or about half a normal Ibanez RG If you are going to have a trem though, it needs to be thick enough to fit in the trem block.
  17. Curtis, wes is saying that it should be less than what they guy quoted you (I couldn't really understand what you were saying in this previous post) - if it's 750 American new (about 930 Canadian), even with a floorboard it shouldn't be 950 Canadian used even if you didn't trade your amp in for it.
  18. buckethead, it sounds like you'll have to make your own. I'll give you a hint - in Photoshop 5.0 at least, the font called "Kunstler Script" is exactly the same and the JEM script. Other than that, I think this thread is done because theres no real use in arguing about a topic that no one will ever change their opinions on.
  19. i read in a guitar world that the lessened tension is one reason he does it, and the other is so that there is less angle down from the bridge so that he breaks strings less often.
  20. I think that there's plenty of difference. Why do some people like eating Limburger cheese? It smells nasty to most but somepeople must like it. Why do other people like to buy new cars when their value is sure to decrease dramatically once they drive it off out of the dealer's lot? Why does Drak throw seemingly beautiful guitars into the Wall of Death? There's no question that all people are different from eachother, you really can't tell what makes them tick or why they do the things they do. Ever watch the movie Matchstick Men? Even though he was messed up, was there any reason for Nicholas Cage to open and close every door 3 times before leaving it open to go through? Yea the JEM logo might add value to this guitar or increase the chance of a scam when it's sold, but the reason buckethead777 is making a guitar is so he can have something that he can't get otherwise, making it how he wants it. If he wants the logo, I think it's up to him. I doubt that he's going to put a serial number on it.
  21. good way to say that the prices are firm, eh?
  22. get it all back to the castle in one piece?
