  1. This one has a full width long tenon that is sandwiched under the top and reaches to the bridge. You can contour as deep as you like when done that way. SR
  2. I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer white limba to black. Is there any definable reason for that, or is just part of your make up? As in, I look at these two boards, and that one looks better to me....I dunno why, it just does. SR
  3. The body won't have a top. I like the grain in the limba. The headstock will have an 1/8" ziricote plate, and the tuners will be recessed slightly. Both the headplate, and the fretboard will have maple veneer under them to match the neck lams. The grain in the limba is awesome, I'm glad to here you say that. Nice touch with the maple lams to match the neck too. I was looking at the iceman with the iceman visual you put up and assumed that meant a black top. This is going to be fun. SR
  4. Very cool tailpiece on what's going to be a sweet guitar. What are the top and headstock plate going to be made from? Are they to be painted black or do you have that much ziricote? SR
  5. +1 Nice job all around. Isn't it great that there are as many creative ways to fix problems as there are ways to make them? SR
  6. Simply outstanding. It bears repeating: Simply outstanding. SR
  7. Love the neck jig. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. Do you find any changes in your approach due to building 6 at a time over just one? SR
  8. I guess your elm has been getting some more seasoning. Man, that is one nice fretboard. SR
  9. +1 I consider them hard fought for and well earned. Each one is like a badge of honor for some trial overcome. SR
  10. According to the responses I got yes.http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=44121 I tested 5 minute, 30 minute, Z-Poxy and T-88 all with the same results. Less hardener (within reason) equals harder cure. It still feels counter intuitive, but it is what it is. SR
  11. My experience with epoxies, in particular those with a long open time like T-88 is they leech/soak into open pores, wood grain, abrasions etc. every bit a well, if not better than titebond- type glues. And I have read in articles- posted by RAD I think- that glue starvation is pretty much a non-issue, so clamp away tightly. The bonding/curing occurs at a molecular level so a thick layer of epoxy is not necessary for a good bond. Therefore tight joinery equals nearly invisible glue lines. Another thing I have discovered through testing is that too much hardener in the mix can leave the cure soft, and just a little less hardener than resin will be yield a very hard cure. That sounded counter-intuitive to me, but when i posted the results of my experiments a year or so ago, I had quite a bit of feedback confirming that finding as normal. T-88 is good stuff. SR
  12. I don't suppose you have this still assembled and be willing to post a photo, would you? While I've seen a few on line, I'd love to see how one was made and used in a manner relevant to all of us here. I have a bare minimum of knowledge and no experience with these, but understand that they can be extremely useful, in particular to those of us that do not own higher end equipment. SR
  13. Is the beast related to the neck monster? SR
  14. That's a combination I like as well. And this looks amazing done this way. SR
  15. Excellent analogy! Gotta have the pickguard now. SR
  16. I'm not. I have heard of that, but never done it. How about a rotary switch? They have 5-ways so there ought to be 3-ways. How about micros? A micro 3-way or a couple of tiny on-offs could be cool. SR
  17. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=45887 Check the first two posts. SR
  18. Very nice little corner of the world you live in Chad. Thanks for the snaps. I really enjoy getting little close up views of this planet especially from points of view that I'm never likely to have on my own. I'm not normally a fan of pickguards, but the first thing that jumped into my head when I say that pic is nice pick-guard. I really like the shape. I'm not sure I'd vote to cover up that wood....but I certainly wouldn't vote against that pick guard. Boy that firmly straddled the fence didn't it? SR
  19. Winner! Gabon even... That is decadent...but it had to be done. Watching this one will be fun. SR
  20. I'm looking forward to hearing your take on those P-90s. I love mine. SR
