killemall8
Thanks guys! This bubinga is just great all around. It literally glows from all angles. It is ready for hardware. I just cant decide on pickups for it. Here are a few other projects going on as well.
ScottR
That is some seriously saturated padouk. And what is that cool headstock cap? SR
killemall8
Thanks! I need to get some more of it before my supplier is out. The headcap is walnut burl. The body is matching but with the sapwood down the center.
killemall8
Here is the explorer. I knocked out all the routing today. I now have 3 guitars sitting there waiting for fretwork before i glue in the neck. The burl on this one will look awesome.
killemall8
I had to take some glamor shots of the spalted Etimoe. Its just too insane to not! Here are some pics of the zebrawood wet down too.
ScottR
Gorgeous! You know, for a guy that recently lost some of his access to building space, you've been putting out a hell of a lot of work lately. Keep it up, this is great stuff! SR
killemall8
I didnt lose any access. I still havnt moved yet. Keep getting too afraid!
MiKro
All looking fantastic as usual for you Luis. Great Work. Very nice wood porn. MK
Prostheta
That burl has to qualify as one of the best you've ever made, Luis.
killemall8
Thanks guys! You think so, Carl? Ive always wanted to do one with the sapwood right down the middle.
Prostheta
It's damn classy. Veneering isn't easy to do properly (especially with fragile edges) but I get kind of bored of the same old thing myself. That one just kicks the class up a big notch. A dark back wood like Black Walnut would be amazing. You know when something is good when it starts making ideas crop up in your own head....
killemall8
I have access to a lot of great walnut burl like that. I for some reason always gravitate to bubinga or lighter woods for some reason. Some of the bookmatches ive gotten with walnut are insane though. Think i'll do a few more. killemall8
Also, something i noticed. Punisher, anybody? Or maybe an alien skull. First coats of oil looking good!
Prostheta
I like the throwaway way that you say that. "I'll just do a few more".
killemall8
Haha, its a simple concept to me! I had ordered a set of black winter pickups to put in the spalted SS, but i think i'll put them in the EXP instead.
killemall8
So the EXP got picked up and a deposit put down. So i still have the black winters. I will go back to my original plan of putting them in the bubinga SS.

ScottR
Even when you know it's coming, that bright green zebrawood is startling. SR

SR That is what i was hoping for! Its a little more lime green now than in the pic. I might do one more coat to get it back to what the picture looked like.
killemall8
Still been working a lot on these, but just doing all the finishing touches.
ScottR
I've never considered maple quilt as a camo pattern before, but it works amazingly well. That's a very cool pic. SR
killemall8
That is exactly what i said when i posted it on my page! So ive ran into a strange issue on 2 of my recent guitars. With average action and a new nut and bridge, when i pluck the low e, it is vibrating like crazy, so much that it buzzes because it is hitting the frets due to vibrating so much. Only when open. And if i hit the string from a different angle, like if i hit it from the bottom up, or play it bass style by pulling it up and letting it go, it doesnt buzz at all, no matter how hard i pluck it. It is getting really annoying. Ive never had this problem before.
curtisa
Nut slot cut too low? String rattling in the slot (slot too wide, too flat)? Neck relief too little? First fret too high? Could be unrelated to frets too. Look for something rattling in sympathy - tuners, bridge components, strap buttons, pots, nuts etc... killemall8
Its definitely not a nut slot cut too low. Its actually really high and it isnt coming close to the fret at all. Its not rattling in the slot. Its definitely the string vibrating in huge oval like patterns and hitting around the 12th fret, even though the action is moderately high. Isnt touching at the first or last fret.
curtisa
If you're sure it's buzzing at the 12th, perhaps the neck is too straight? Try a different gauge low-E? Maybe it's got something to do with the amount of elasticity that particular string has, in conjunction with string tension that allows it to "over-vibrate" when played open? What about truss rod rattle? I've seen a guitar where you could get it to buzz by plucking the open B string while fretting the low-E at the tenth fret. The open B would cause the low-E to resonate behind the fretted 10th, which was rattling on a fret somewhere between the 9th fret and the nut. Weird. If you have a multimeter with a continuity "beep" function you can pinpoint the exact location of a fret buzz by clipping one probe to the string behind the nut and use the other probe to touch each fret. As you pluck the string, if the string is buzzing on the fret you have the second meter probe attached to, the meter will beep.
