albertop
Finally after a long time I finished my second guitar; it´s a neckthrough SG and it took me about 2 months to make it and like 5 months to get it painted, but it came out great and I really like it. The specs are: mahogany body and neck, rosewood headstock and fretboard w/medium-tall frets, 24 3/4" scale, chrome hardware and Gotoh tuners. The finish is polyester and the color is cherry red. the pickups are Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz and the wiring came from StewMac. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01331.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01332.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01333.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01336.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01338.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01354.jpg I always love the SG´s and I read somewhere that the Gibson intention was to make the SG neckthrough; I really don´t know if this is true but it seemed like a good idea and I just went for it. It´s a mix between a 61' and the P. Townshend model. It´s a very light guitar in comparison with my other ones and it sound really cool, I really love it. If you wanna see more pics check this link: http://photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/ I´ll love to hear your replies, cheers
mullmuzzler
It is very beautiful. I love the poly finish. Did you do the finish by yourself or...? The color is dead-on, as far as the pics go. mullmuzzler | OSSMT
eddiewarlock
It's gorgeous!!! you should enter it to the GOTM, i love the color, that's the color i want for my Warlock

Time well spent, I say...maybe you can teach me a bit about patience... I love the color, it's exactly the color of my 65 melody maker! Only thing is... a guitar that beautiful deserves it's own logo --it's not too late to put a waterslide on there, it it?
Crazy Carl
Dude, that is gorgeous.
idrum4food
THAT is Awsome. The SG has always been one of my favorites also. I think I read about the neckthrough part at Ed Roman. Congrats on a beautiful ax.
johnsilver
Albertop, congratulations. That is a beautiful guitar. Will you say a little more about how you finished the guitar i.e. grain filling, sealer, color, clear, etc?
Devon Headen
That is a flawless finish. Kudos.
Southpa
VERY nice job! Now ya got me thinking. Come springtime I think I'll strip down the neckthru SG I just finished. I got a nice crack to fix in the front of the guitar from a mishap shortly after I finished it anyway. But I'm not really happy with the really dark finish I laid down, it just doesn't do the mahogany grain any justice!
xlr8
That is the guitar Gibson should be building. Very nice work.
Daniel Sorbera
can we see a pic of the neck joint? Very nice job by the way. My first inpression was "wow this guy knows what hees doing" It's very beautiful.

AlGeeEater
HOLY SHEET MAN! That SG is so beautiful. Perfect paintjob and it looks so cool to play. One of these i want to get around to makin' an SG. Awesome work! Chris Edited January 8, 2005 by AlGeeEater
crafty
can we see a pic of the neck joint? Only one problem. There is no neck joint. Re-read that topic title again...
ThePlague
i think you should've done a black headstock to keep with the traditional gibson look. the rosewood just doesn't look right to me. (but it's not my guitar, so as long as you think it looks good that's all that matters) the rest of the guitar though... wow. that is beautiful. i agree with xlr8. Maiden69
Very nice Alberto, better than a Gibson, neckthru is the way to go. I love the way that the neck tapers at the end, don't like the place that the strap botton is. but is well done. I hope that my next build comes as nice as that! Only one thing detracts from complete beauty, the headstock, even mahogany painted the same way as the body will haved look much better, even better than the Gibson Black. Muy bien hecho, ! albertop
Thanks everybody for the nice comments, I´m really glad all of you like it. Godin SD: I´ll try to post a pic tomorrow, I made a "faux" neck joint. it looks like a classic joint but it really is a neckthrough. It just felt better that way. About the headstock, mmm I like it, I didn´t want to put a clasic black headstock. It´s a SG clone but I wanted to put a spin somewhere, something a little bit different. Besides I´m gonna a plaque with my initials like a Zemaitis headstock, so do not fear because the headstock will be covered more I guess Hey Maiden do you mean the strap button in the "joint"? I tought that´s where the strap button usually is, maybe I´m wrong, and muchas gracias! Edited January 9, 2005 by albertop
Alarung
Lookin' sweet. Did you have to move the bridge further up the body to account for the fretboard ending so far up? That LP is awesome too. You do pro work man. Feel proud.
doug
GREAT JOB MAN! -Doug
Setch
Great job - the body contours and finishing are flawless. I also like the RW headstock veneer, it's what I tend to use on my guitars, unless they have an ebony fretboard.
Drak
Drak, wiping the dirt off of my tongue and bandaging jaw from hitting floor... That is beautiful. Really beautiful. This is one case I wish pkp manufacturers would not put their names on top of the pkps, I don't want to see Seymours name on your guitar. albertop
Godin SD: here´s a pic of the "faux" neck joint, it looks like a regular joint: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01360.jpg It feels real good, I think it´s because it really is very thin "joint". Alarung: I just put the bridge where it supposed to be, I just calculated the distance between the 12th fret and do a little compensation on the bass side. I think that´s where the SG bridge usually is. Setch: I´m really glad you like the headstock, it looks like it´s only you and me And thanks you all for the compliments, it´s my second guitar and I´m really proud that you all like it. Daniel Sorbera
Man I LOVE the way you finished it. What color stain did you put on(if any). I want the same look on my mahogany backed guitar i'm building. Did you fill the grain with black grainfiller? thats what it looks like. Maiden69
Alberto yes thats the place were gibson place theirs, It is nice, just that for my taste I like it at the back of the horn. But its a matter of taste. I didn't notice the faux neck joint. I thought you had done a smooth carve tapering to the body , looks classy! GodBlessTexas
That's beautiful. I've always been a fan of the SG, and that one is a beautiful example. Nice work. GBT
