  1. What's there? I'm guessing you are saying the top is in the view from the back and it covers the notch from the front view. I'm guessing the notch is for the jack socket. What's the small cavity for--are BK Nailbombs active? SR
  2. How is it I can see grass through that notch in the back view, but can't see the notch at all in the front view? SR
  3. That transition behind the nut is sick. The grain in the back that matches the neck is also very cool. I'm sure you picked that body wood neck wood comibination to take advantage of that. SR
  4. Making your own 6 ply purfling? Dang Louis, that is incredible attention to detail.....almost borderline OCD! Verrrrrrrrrry nice work. SR
  5. Sand a little fillet where that join is so that your glue line is at the same level and if the surface of you top has to come down a little you are left with a little cove or fillet. It is easy enough, just make sure your paper doesn't quite go to the edge of the sanding block when you sand next to the neck. My builds get this to some degree because I set the neck before I carve. If the little bit of top left next to your neck--the glue line basically--doesn't quite accept dye the same as the rest of the top, load up your air brush with tinted lacquer and shoot a little fade/burst right against the neck. Weren't you going to burst this again? SR
  6. I see why you said "almost". Muzz told me it's not doen till you put the cavity cover on it. Nice pice of ash. You are developing a habit of taking "boards" and making them look killer. Dirt huh? SR
  7. The first couple still work fine, it looks like the last one is a link to your log in page and the others are links to what is inside. BTW your last grillin' made my stomach growl. SR
  8. You could use the vinyl sealer.....or not. You could just as easily thin down some of the clear and spray a couple of coats of that as your sealer too. The brand of sanding sealer shouldn't matter too much. But my experience is sanding sealer looks like it has gotten all the grain filled....untill you spray a finish. pay close attention to your pores and see if they are really filled. SR
  9. You've made a pretty good start with that aged vintage white. SR
  10. Hey K, good to see you again. Take your usual headstock and tweak the wings to reflect the tweaks you've added to this body. SR
  11. I suppose if that doesn't work, you can revisit the idea of ebony. It is not as though people are unused to seeing black plastic cavity covers. The ebony would probably not stick out like a sore thumb. SR
  12. When trying to get a near grain match for a cavity cover, I've set the template in place and drawn on it in pencil indications of what the grain should be in a perfect match. Then I lay it down on my stock, turning it every which to see how many grain lines I can get to match up. SR
  13. Ebony makes a great accent, but i think you'd need it in one more place (for a total of 3) for it to work correctly. I do like the idea of recreating your neck lams in the places you mentioned and for the cavity cover. The sapele involved in that will look fine if you use a grain orientation totally different from the body grain. That will look intentional as opposed to mismatched. You could even orient your lams offset by 30 degrees or (pick a number) in each of the three locations: TR cover, HS nameplate, and cavity cover, just make them all point the same way for continuity. In other words if your neck lams run at 12:00 and 6:00 o'clock, the other 3 locations could run at 1:00 and 7:00 o'cklock. Just one option. SR
  14. Wow. That's a lot of work. It might have less work to build one from scratch. Not cheaper though--you can't argue about the price of this one. SR
  15. My latest got tons of Robin Trower played to it while it developed. You've got to start training them in the womb! James Dewar was awesome. The next vocalist, Davie Patterson, is killer too. In fact, it took me a while to realize Dewar was gone. SR
  16. I think that looks pretty cool, actually. I like the pearl idea too; it will help fill in the machine marks. SR
  17. I agree with darker. When in doubt pick ebony. It goes with everything. SR
  18. Very clean flowing lines.....this is a great looking bass......that line is worth repeating. Looking forward to seeing it strung up. SR
  19. That must have been an impressive piece of ziri. And thanks Paulie. SR
