LGM Guitars
well, I think this would make a hell of a lot more sense in the inlays and finishing section, but since you can't do a poll in there, I guess I'll do it here Ok, I have a customer guitar I'm working on, the guitar itself is a trans purple quilt top Jackson soloist, here is the inlay so far. Originally he wanted maple, but I think it looks far better on Ebony, the maple kind of makes it all look drab, there is still a lot more to be cut, like all the water, but the whales are the main focal point, so what do you like better? ebony? or the maple? westhemann
i really like the ebony but if the customer wants maple..... but i am sure you plan on asking him too
LGM Guitars
yeah, he hasn't seen it on either yet, I just feel the ebony looks better, makes the inlay stand out nicer
G_urr_A
I think the maple gives a more day-ish lightning impression, which I like, but it depends a lot on the owner's type of music, IMO.
westhemann
i do agree the ebony looks killer...if it was me i would for sure go ebony....
basey
I voted for maple. I think the whales would look good with a high gloss, figured background. kinda watery looking. ... I could be wrong though. Nice design BTW
Guest AlexVDL
I choose maple... 1. because a lot of inlay work is being done in ebony, and I think maple would be more unique 2. Whales have dark colors, which I think contrasts very well to a light maple board... the quilted maple reminds me of waves 3. because it could be a challenge to route the inlay so you get as little gaps as possible. It's very easy to hide on ebony, but maple shows everything. So For me it would be a lovely challenge Nice inlays by the way!
jbkim
Will the maple be stained blue (or whatever water looking color?)

I don't know, a super dark blue might look interesting... at least enough to photoshop a mock-up or a little test piece.

krazyderek
definitly the maple, i've been staring at those pictures for almost an hour, there's just something i like about the maple
syxxstring
I like the feel of maple boards way better. Itd really help to see the whole layout w/ the guitar body.
Grindell
Ebony. I think it loses definition on the maple, but then, I'm color blind so maybe that has something to do with it.
Reaper
Ebony, definately.
Ace
Good to see some consensus on the board ;-) My initial reflex would have been "ebony" but seeing how the bunny on the maple board turned out had me wondering...need to contemplate more so long ace
Scott Rosenberger
Anything other than Ebony on a Soloist is Blasphemy IMO
EKG
Visually, I like it on the ebony better, but I am a sucker for maple boards.
