Primal
link came up file not found. When it comes off, take everything after the .jpg off. That \ tagged on the end of his link is making it mess up. Goth_fiend, that Conklin has fanned frets. Will you be attempting this?
PerryL
Goth Fiend, You might try a Vocational School in your area for making that bridge. Some times there are classes that will take outside projects that the machine trades will work on. It may take a while but It would get the job done. westhemann
I can't imagine playing an 8 string guitar would be very pleasant. Has anyone actually played an 8 string before? my seven string is unpleasantly wide in the neck...it is not nice to play for long like you,i think that an 8 string would be very cumbersome.i would rather play a boat paddle BUT....different strokes(pun intended)
RGGR
I understand wes..... But ever since I had a look at this guitar.....I can't help wanting one. Call me a fool. And with that 30" scale length neck.......it actually looks rather small. ;-)
westhemann
is that guy just huge or what? i am over 6 foot myself...and i have long hands and fingers...but i don't think my hands would wrap around that neck like that
goth_fiend
no i wont be doing fanned frets on this guitar, and that ibanez is super sweet, it has a fixed 8 string edge on it which was where I got the idea for the floyd, and as for vocational schools i will check that out as well! meshuggah are awesome
goth_fiend
what size truss rod should i use for this guitar guys, will i be able to get away with a standard 18" rod or should i go for a 24"?
RGGR
I think the neck of that guitar is small than we all think it is. If it's 50 mm at the nut.......with the 30" scale it just has an awesome slim appearance. And 50 mm at nut or 48mm at nut....isn't that much difference Th neck of that latest 8 stringer that LGM did was huge. He said it was 3 1/8 at the 24th fret and figuring it would be like 52-53 mm at the nut, I made quick cad of that guitar (body and neck) and it just looked bulky and in no way close to the slim appearance of this puppy. Meegs666
seriously, playing an 8 stringer makes no sense to me. i have a strat with a normal strat neck tuned to beadgb. why not just thicken up your strings and play f#,b,e,a,d,g,b on a seven string. i mean how many notes will you lose for not having a high e, like 5? im with wes, its just too much. theres a bass player for a reason. my bass player is playing a 6 string bass and im playing a seven string which doesnt leave much of a gap. rhoads56
There is no bass player in that band. Way to go i reckon

eddiewarlock
although i am by no means an Ibanez fan, I do like how RG's look like ,and this one kicks ass, it needs binding though!
goth_fiend
yeah binding on that guitar would look sweet, im thinking of doing a faux binding on my 8 but im not sure yet
ThePlague
i'd just like to reiterate that a low F# string of at LEAST 70 is gonna be necissary. i use a 70 for tuning to C and i get about the tension i like.
Canuck Brian
i'd just like to reiterate that a low F# string of at LEAST 70 is gonna be necissary. i use a 70 for tuning to C and i get about the tension i like. ← I'm currently using a 54 for my low B and it sounds fine. I tested a 65 on my 7 string ibanez and tuned it to G with no issues.
goth_fiend
I fully plan on using a .70 for my f# no worries there man
Thoughtless 7
i already stated it would be tuned to F#, A, E, A, D, G, b, e wes! yes you did.but that makes no sense. i think you mean F#,B,etc... right? i think you are misjudging your intervals...if you tune the 7th string to A,then you have to either tune the 8th string to E or C...and only C makes sense in that case right? ← Don't worry...that makes no sense to me either... goth_fiend
looking more into it, the tuning will be F#, B,E,A,D,G,B,E didnt read that much guys sorry wasnt thinkin!
Thoughtless 7
Well...its better, but it still doesn't line up...shouldn't it be GBEADGBE?
